On-screen colours may vary according to different screen calibrations so we always recommend purchasing a sample pot first if colour is critical and always applying a test area before painting.

preparation

Details

Make sure the wood surface to be painted is clean, dry and free from dirt, dust and grease. Put down dust sheets to cover anything that you don't want to get paint on.

Prep - Bare Wood

Start by lightly sanding your wood. This will give it an even finish and helps the primer and undercoat to stick. Use 120grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the woodgrain. Remember to wear a face mask. When the dust has settled, give the wood a wipe with white spirit. If you see any imperfections use Ronseals Multi Purpose Wood Filler to fill them in.

Prep - Previously Painted Wood

If your old paint is in good condition just give it a light sand to help the Primer & Undercoat stick. If it’s flaking or cracked you’ll need to sand it back to bare wood. The easiest way to do this is with an electric sander. Use 120grit sandpaper and sand in the direction of the woodgrain. It creates a lot of dust, so make sure you wear a face mask.
When the dust has settled, give the wood a wipe with white spirit. If you see any imperfections use Ronseals Multi Purpose Wood Fillerr to fill them in. For bigger holes use our High Performance Wood Filler, and if any of your wood is rotten
our Wet Rot Wood Hardener will sort that out.

Application

Details

Give it a really good stir. Then paint it on with a synthetic brush, in the direction of the woodgrain. You’ll need to put on 2 coats. Leave 4 hours between coats. After your 2nd coat give it a light sand with 240grit sandpaper. It’s now ready to paint over.

Usage Areas: All smooth outdoor wood. Don't use on rough sawn fences and sheds.
Compatibility: New or previously painted wood.
Clean Up: Clean all brushes using warm, soapy water.
